A Legacy of Leadership, Ministry, and Education

David Kalamen, author of Life Purpose and His Church His Way, is the founder and now consultant to the Board of Kelowna Christian Center Society (KCCS). Married to Carleen for 52 years, David and his family, all living and working in Kelowna, have served the community through the Kelowna Christian Center for over 40 years.

His Church His WayBorn in Campbellton, New Brunswick, David grew up across four of Canada’s provinces – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and British Columbia. As a pastor’s son, he has witnessed three generations of ministers within his family, working alongside his father, Arnold Kalamen, and now his son, Brodie, who serves as KCC’s senior pastor. Together, they have contributed over 100 years to pastoral ministry in the Kelowna area.

David pursued his post-secondary studies at Okanagan College (Kelowna, BC) and Summit Pacific College (Abbotsford, BC) before earning a double major B.A. in Religion and Political Science at Vanguard University in California. He was later honored with a Doctorate in Practical Ministry from the Wagner Leadership Institute.

Ministerial Contributions

Over the years, David has been instrumental in shaping various ministries. As President of the Ministerial and host of numerous City Transformation conferences, he developed the Houses of Mercy program to build compassionate community engagement. His weekly column, “Oh! Canada!” on Castanet, and later his blog, DAVE Talks (www.DAVETalk.ca), have provided a platform to address social, political, and moral issues impacting Canadian society.

David’s heart for missions extends globally. He has spoken at conferences worldwide on topics like church governance, spiritual fathering, social justice, and city transformation, traveling to over 35 nations. Additionally, he has served as a trustee on the General Council of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, an international faculty member at Wagner Leadership Institute, and a founding Director of Open Bible Faith Fellowship churches.

Contributions to Christian Education

David and Carleen have a deep commitment to Christian education. They founded Heritage Christian School, which evolved into Flex Academy, an institution reaching close to 9,000 students across British Columbia. Heritage Christian Online School (www.onlineschool.ca) has grown to become the largest online Christian school in Western Canada, with a curriculum now reaching students globally.

They also established the Global Training Ministry Center, a discipleship school for young leaders, preparing over 300 students for ministry and cultural integration. David has also collaborated with national leaders on the 3P Project, aiming to instill a Christian worldview across the church in Canada, from “pulpit to pew to parliament.”

Business and Community Impact

David and Carleen operated Trend Business Colleges with campuses in Kelowna and Edmonton for 12 years. His influence extends to kingdom-focused initiatives like The Statesmen Project, where he assists in training leaders to impact the Seven Mountains of Culture. He remains active within the Canadian Coalition of Apostolic Leaders (CCAL) and supports multiple missions, including Building Beyond Borders (www.buildingbeyondborders.com).

Publications and Thought Leadership

Through his books and numerous columns, David’s vision is to guide others in discovering their God-given purpose. His book Life Purpose has resonated with readers across Canada and internationally, and his blog DAVE Talks continues to provide insight into leadership and social justice issues.
