Life Purpose

STUDY GUIDE

“Until your desire to become you matches God’s desire for you to become you, you will never become who God intended you to be”

How passionate are you to see God’s purposes come to fruition in your life?

How aggressively are you pursuing the knowledge of God and His will for your life?

How desperate are you to locate that for which your life
has been called upward in Christ (Phil 3:12)?

Are you “pressing towards the goal to win the prize to which Christ Jesus is calling you upward?”

You will never see your potential maximized until there is a grabbing hold of destiny in your heart. You will never become the you God intended until you get serious about knowing Him and knowing His will. Jesus said that “the violent take the kingdom by force”

(Matt 11:12).

This violence is similar to the aggressiveness of a baby in the birth canal that is ready to start living life. You have got to mean business about serving the purposes of God in this generation, and get your priorities in line if you want to find that life that gives significance.

Chapter 2

The Era of Post-Modernity

1. Imagine a play without a plot, a game without rules, or a life without values – what is termed, the absence of a meta-narrative. What mental anxiety oremotional dysfunction does that produce in people? This would provide a description of what has been broadly described as Generation X.

2. Historians are describing a cultural shift of critical proportions, and have stated that our North American society has entered an era of post-modernity: describe the three major eras and their characteristics –

  • The Pre-Modern Era
  • The Modern Era
  • The Post-Modern Era

3. Define the message, ministry and methodology of the 21st Century Church to this generation in reference to the characteristics describing post-modernity: eg. what must our message, ministry and methodology be to reach a generation that has lost its meta-narrative, has lost its moral center, no longer believes in commitment for life, etc.

4. God has raised up godly generations to reach a godless generation, a purposeful people to reach a purposeless people. Explore the messengers, the message, and the methodology God brought through the lives of:

  • Esther (Esther 4:14)
  • Daniel (Daniel 11:32)
  • David (Acts 13:36)
  • Draw from the champions of faith, the history makers of the Church

5. The writer recognizes three predominating spirit trends in our society – the spirit of escapism, selfishness and confusion. How does the Church fight these spirit trends? How are we to counter these spiritual movements?
